Below are some problems and questions I have about my family history. If you know of any information that may help me please write to me at
1) My maternal grandmother Catherine Amelia Jenkins was placed in an orphanage with her sister Rachel when they were quite young. The orphanage was located in Bristol, England and I would like to find out which orphanage they were at. I had thought it was the famous Ashley Down Orphanage known as "The New Orphan Houses" which was started by George Müller in the 1830's. But it appears I was wrong. It may have been the "Blue Maids" orphanage instead. I have been told the records of that orphanage have been lost but I still hope to find something to confirm the orphanage.
The picture below was taken at the orphanage approximately in 1911. Catherine (Kate) is the young girl on the lower left of the picture holding a doll. Her sister Rachel is standing in the top left corner between the two adults. Next to Rachel is Dorothy Sweatman who later married David Jenkins older brother to Catherine and Rachel.

2) George Merriman and Elizabeth had a son named William about 1844 in Cheltenham. I have found no evidence of him in England after his birth, but I have found a William Merriman who travelled on board the SS Wyoming to New York, April 22, 1872. His age is correct for that year but now how do I go about finding out where this William went in the US and try to link him to my family in the UK?
