BECAUSE OF OUR MODEST BEGINNINGS AS A SMALL CLUB, WE USE ONLY TWO "FIREARMS BASED" SHOOTER CATEGORIES (RATHER THAN THE MORE COMMON VARIETY OF SHOOTER CATEGORIES ENCOUNTERED IN COWBOY ACTION SHOOTING.)

THESE TWO "PRIMARY"CATEGORTIES ARE:

- "OLD WEST" - This category requires the use of both "traditional" pistols (i.e. having simple, non-adjustable sights) AND a double-barreled shotgun with external hammers, plus any permissible lever-action or pump-action pistol-caliber rifle.

- "WILD WEST" - ANY other combination of permissible firearms places you in this category.
(In other words, any shooter with adjustable sight pistols, hammerless double shotgun and/or pump or lever-action shotgun will compete in this category.)

(As usual in this sport, shooters will require two handguns ... except in the "WORKING COWBOY" sub-category. (See Below.)

SHOOTER SUB-CATEGORIES:

Within both of our two Primary Shooter Categories outlined above, shooters must select ONE of the following Sub-Categories -

- "LADIES" - Women who are not qualified for (or choose not to enter) either the "JUNIORS" or "LADIES OLD TIMERS" category.

- "GENTS" - Men who are not qualified for (or choose not to enter) either the "JUNIORS" or "GENTS OLD TIMERS" category.

- "JUNIORS" - Any shooter (male or female) less than 18 years of age.

- "GENTS OLD TIMERS" - Men who are 60 years of age or older.

- "LADIES OLD TIMERS" - Women who are 60 years of age or older.

- "DUELIST" - Shooters in this category (male or female) must engage all Main Stage handgun targets while holding (and cocking) each pistol one-handed. (This is currently our sole available sub-category based on "shooting style".)

- "WORKING COWBOY" - Shooters in this category (male or female) compete with only one handgun, rather than two. Stage directions will either direct shooters in this category to engage only one set of pistol targets OR to re-load their pistol (on the clock) to engage second set of pistol targets.
