Both Perzonowsky and Werner Schwalb were hanged in Lethbridge for the Medicine Hat murders
Two murders of POW by fellow prisoners occurred in the Medicine Hat camp. 5 POW were tried in civilian court in Medicine Hat and later hanged in Lethbridge provincial jail in 1946. The five were originally buried in the jail's courtyard however in 1971 all 137 POW were disinterred and removed to Woodlawn cemetery in Kitchener, Ontario at the request of the German War Graves authority.
